Tanzania is one of Africa’s largest gold producers, and the Lake Zone around Geita, Kahama, Shinyanga and Mwanza is where most of it is found. Gold runs through every KMCL division.
Tanzanite is found in only one place in the world: the Mererani Hills near Arusha. Exported Tanzanite must carry a Certificate of Origin.
Diamond exports are covered by the Kimberley Process, which certifies that stones are conflict-free.
